AIROL® is a Tretinoin-based drug
THERAPEUTIC GROUP: Anti-acne preparations for topical use
Indications AIROL ® Tretinoin
AIROL® is indicated in the cutaneous treatment of acne vulgaris and in particular of comedonic forms.
Mechanism of action AIROL ® Tretinoin
AIROL® is a drug based on Tretinoin, the name used to indicate the acid form of vitamin A, which is clearly distinguished from the aldehyde or alcoholic forms, characterized by a decidedly more modest effective action.
The topical use of this principle exerts in the treated skin region:
- an impressive exfoliating action, important in removing the most superficial keratinized skin layers;
- a mitotic and proliferative activity, capable of accelerating cellular enzymatic activity, probably ensuring a reprogramming of gene expression, thus facilitating the regeneration of the previously abraded skin layer.
The therapeutic action is evident above all towards comedones, where the initial decheratinization is important in unblocking the hair follicle canal, allowing a correct regeneration of the epidermis.
Studies carried out and clinical efficacy
TRETINONIN: CLINICAL TRIAL IN MEXICAN PATIENTS
J Cosmet Dermatol. 2013 Jun; 12: 103-7.
Efficacy and safety of adapalene gel 0.1% and 0.3% and tretinoin gel 0.05% for acne vulgaris: results of a single-center, randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial on Mexican patients (skin type III-IV).
Tirado-Sánchez A, Espíndola YS, Ponce-Olivera RM, Bonifaz A.
Clinical trial conducted on about 170 patients which demonstrated the efficacy of Tretinonine, comparable to that of Adapelene, in the treatment of acne vulgaris in Mexican patients, reducing the extent of inflammatory lesions.
ALOE VERA PLUS "€ ™ TRETINONIN
J Dermatolog Treat. 2013 May 6. [Epub ahead of print]
Effect of Aloe vera topical gel combined with tretinoin in treatment of mild and moderate acne vulgaris: a randomized, double-blind, prospective trial.
Hajheydari Z, Saeedi M, Morteza-Semnani K, Soltani A.
Interesting work that demonstrates how the association of Aloe vera with Tretinonin can optimize the therapeutic efficacy of the latter in the treatment of acne vulgaris, facilitating the regression of inflammatory lesions.
SHORT THERAPY WITH TRETINONIN
J Dermatolog Treat. 2013 Jan 20. [Epub ahead of print]
Short contact therapy of acne with tretinoin.
Veraldi S, Barbareschi M, Benardon S, Schianchi R.
Important clinical study that tries to limit the classic side effects of Tretinonine using a short contact therapy, characterized by the extemporaneous application of 30 minutes of the drug.
The results appear promising especially in limiting the incidence of contact dermatitis.
Method of use and dosage
AIROL®
Cream for topical use of 0.05 gr of Tretinonina per 100 gr of product;
Lotion for cutaneous use of 0.05 gr of Tretinonina per 100 gr of solution.
Correct use, which must clearly be done on medical prescription, generally involves applying the correct amount of cream or lotion directly to the skin region to be treated once or twice a day.
The treatment should be prolonged for at least 3 - 5 weeks to see the first beneficial effects of the therapy.
AIROL ® Tretinoin warnings
The use of AIROL® should be preceded by a careful medical examination aimed at clarifying the origin of the skin lesions described and the possible prescribing appropriateness of Tretinonine.
At the same time, the patient undergoing therapy should pay particular attention to the use of the drug, taking care of:
- thoroughly cleanse your hands after applying the drug;
- avoid contact with eyes or mucous membranes;
- avoid direct exposure of the treated region to ultraviolet rays.
It is also recommended to avoid the use of AIROL® in patients with previous burns even of modest entity and to consider the potential adverse events that would derive from inappropriate use of the medicine.
Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING
The absence of studies able to best characterize the safety profile of retinoids taken topically for the fetus and the side effects of systemic therapy, on the other hand, extend the aforementioned contraindications to pregnancy and the subsequent period of breastfeeding.
Interactions
In order to contain possible side effects deriving from therapy with AIROL®, it would be advisable to avoid the simultaneous intake of corticosteroids and drugs in general for topical use.
Contraindications AIROL ® Tretinoin
The use of AIROL® is contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to the active principle or to one of its excipients.
Undesirable Effects - Side Effects
The use of AIROL® could cause, especially in patients with fair skin, the onset of adverse reactions such as irritation, burning, erythema, desquamation and adverse skin events.
Fortunately, clinically more significant adverse reactions such as those related to hypersensitivity are rarer.
