Generality
The sacroiliac joint is the joint that joins the sacrum to the iliac bone. Located at the base of the spinal column, it is a "paired joint; therefore, there are two sacroiliac joints in the human body, one on the right side and one on the left side."
The iliac bones, on the other hand, are bony projections that branch off to the sides of the sacrum and develop downwards and forwards (pubic symphysis).
The sacroiliac joint comprises several ligaments, including: the anterior sacroiliac ligament, the interosseous sacroiliac ligament, the posterior sacroiliac ligament, the sacrotuberous ligament, and the sacrospinous ligament.
The function of the sacrum iliac joint is to support the weight of the body when an individual stands, walks, runs, etc.
