Generality
The vitrectomy is the surgical procedure with which a portion or the whole of the vitreous humor (or vitreous body), present inside the vitreous chamber of the eye, is removed.
The preparation for the operation is quite simple: some clinical checks and the observance of simple rules are foreseen, in view of general anesthesia.
The vitreous humor removal procedure generally lasts 1-2 hours; at the end of it there is at least one day of hospitalization, during which the patient is periodically examined.
The risks of a vitrectomy are different and, in some cases, by no means negligible.
The results of such an intervention depend very much on the conditions which made it necessary to carry it out.
