Fluoxetine was discovered by the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly Company and in 1987 its use was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.
It is a drug considered very important, so much so that it is included in the list of essential drugs drawn up by the World Health Organization (WHO). In this list, all the drugs that must be present within a basic health system are listed.
Fluoxetine is taken orally, in fact, the medicines that contain it are formulated as dispersible or soluble tablets, capsules and oral solution. In order to be dispensed, these medications require the presentation of a repeatable medical prescription (RR); however, being classified as class A drugs, their cost can be reimbursed by the National Health System (SSN).
