What is Teina
Generally, the term theine is used as a synonym for caffeine, with particular reference to that contained in tea leaves (Camellia sinensis). Even if it would seem unreasonable, we could therefore say that coffee is rich in theine and tea in caffeine, without making any mistake.
Caffeine was first isolated in 1819 by the German chemist Friedrich Ferdinand Runge. A few years later, in 1826, Martius isolated guaranine from guarana, while in the following year Oudry discovered the theine in tea. At the end of the 19th century, thanks to the works of Ludwig Medicus and Hermann Emil Fischer, it was finally realized that caffeine, theine and guaranine actually represented the same substance. Even mateine, from the name of the infusion - yerba mate - from which it is extracted, is a simple synonym for caffeine.
Theine in Tea
Although the tea leaves contain - for the same weight - greater quantities of theine, the concentrations in the infusion are normally lower than those of a cup of coffee. Much depends on the extraction techniques (more or less long duration of the infusion). and preparative (generally, black tea contains more caffeine than oolong, which in turn contains more than green tea).
