Sodium tetraborate is a synthetic preservative considered quite dangerous, used in particular in caviar (sturgeon eggs).
At present, the exact negative side effects it can cause are not known. When taken in particularly large quantities, sodium tetraborate can cause: asthma, destruction of red blood cells, diarrhea, internal organ damage, kidney damage, menstrual problems, hair loss and poisoning.
