Also known as human germ cells, spermatozoa are formed inside the seminiferous tubules of the testes, starting from immature germ cells (spermatogonia) through a maturation process called spermatogenesis. As a result of mating, the gametes of each parent can fuse to produce a new cell (zygote) which is known as fertilization or conception.
