Product features Tonalin CLA - Natrol
Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) - with the acronym CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) we mean a series of fatty acids that can be considered as isomers of linoleic acid. All these are made up of 18 carbon atoms and 2 double bonds separated by a single bond.
The particular chemical structure defines as many as 16 different possible isomers, but in nature two are found mainly: 9 cis, 11 trans and 10 trans, 12 cis which in addition to being the most abundant forms are also the most biologically active ones. The same supplements, which are generally obtained from the treatment of vegetable oils according to specific protocols, try to maintain constant relationships between the two most biologically active isomers, also because different studies show how this relationship can significantly affect the potential therapeutic and side effects, also considering the specific tissue distribution, with a muscular tropism for the isomer C9, T11 and adipose for the C10, t12.Although, as we will see later, they are important for the correct functioning of the organism, man does not have the biosynthetic pathways necessary for their synthesis, necessarily having to resort to food intake. Among the foods richest in CLA we find milk with about 0.7% of the total lipid component, followed by meat and some vegetable oils. These guarantee on average a "daily intake between 20 and 170 mg, much lower than what is suggested by the supplementary protocols which with 3.4 gr / day taken orally allow the actual achievement of about 2.7 grams per day, an amount that is about 5-10 times lower than that used in animal models.
Biological role
The importance of CLA in the daily diet is not due exclusively to the classic functions described for any other fat, but mainly to the metabolic and biochemical effect documented by a "large literature that includes more" than 1000 dedicated studies. However, despite the massive amount of work, an aura of mystery remains regarding the efficacy and safety of CLA in human integrative practice, given the conflicting published results and new experimental evidence.
Therefore, although it is possible to list the various effects described in the many studies, it must be considered that for many of these there is still no molecular explanation.
- Anti-carcinogenic action: discovered by chance through in vitro culture systems, it has also been subsequently characterized in animal models of mammary, prostatic, intestinal and pulmonary neoplasms. The anti-neoplastic action should take place thanks to the modulation of the intracellular signal with the consequent regulation of the cell cycle and the apoptotic process
Clinical trials on men are lacking to date.
- Antithrombotic action: particularly important for the prevention of cardiovascular pathologies, it would take place through a regulation of cholesterol levels, and through the reduction of the synthesis of arachidonic acid and related pro-inflammatory and platelet aggregating molecules (thromboxanes, leukotrients and PGE).
- Immune modulatory action: also described on healthy subjects, it seems to be characterized by a reduction in the levels of IgE (responsible for allergic reactions) and inflammatory cytokines, in favor of an enhancement of the specific immune response.
- Reduction of fat mass: implemented through a series of metabolic characteristics:
- Inhibition of the lipoprotein lipase enzyme;
- Increased expression of uncoupling proteins;
- Induction of apoptosis of the pre adipocytes;
- Increased efficiency of the beta oxidation process;
- Increased muscular energy expenditure.
CLA and sports use
Given the numerous potentials of CLA, we tried to test its effectiveness also in sports supplementation. Initially used exclusively with the aim of improving body composition, an ergogenic role was subsequently also described. Studies that associate CLA with Creatine monohydrate, in fact, in addition to recording a marked improvement in body distribution, also highlighted an increase in potency. muscle and better contractile efficacy. Given the potential effects of CLA, it was decided to use it in sports supplementation in order to optimize the results derived from training. While alone, it did not bring important benefits in terms of performance improvement and body composition improvement, in synergy with creatine monohydrate, it guaranteed a marked improvement in both muscle strength and in the execution of the exercise.
Rationale - Tonalin CLA - Natrol
The careful critical evaluation of the various studies proposed by the scientific world offers particularly important food for thought. First of all, it is easy to observe a clear discrepancy between the results obtained by the various research groups, many of which are in complete contradiction for no apparent reason. moreover it is possible to note that the results obtained on animal models are much more significant and incisive than those obtained in humans. A possible explanation for this very confusing picture could derive from:
- Very high inter-species and intra-species biological variability;
- Discrepancy between the dosages used in laboratory animals and those used in humans;
- Different biological effect of the various isomers;
- Absence of molecular mechanisms;
All these factors should guide the reader towards a correct interpretation of the results and benefits described by the manufacturing companies, always evaluating everything with an accentuated critical sense.
Method of use recommended by the company - Tonalin CLA - Natrol
It is recommended to take 1 capsule three times a day with meals.
Method of use in sports - Tonalin CLA - Natrol
As mentioned at the beginning, the dosages described in the various studies are very different, especially when moving from animal models to clinical trials on healthy individuals. Today the most common range of application is from 2 grams / day to 6 grams per day considering that its bioavailability is around 70%. Among all the studies proposed, the most replicated dosage is that of 3.4 grams per day in more administrations at more or less regular intervals of time.
Administration should be preferred during meals.
The effectiveness in weight loss (estimated at around 0.09kg / week, linear in the first six months) is achieved for prolonged periods of time for which the doctor's opinion is essential.
Synergies Tonalin CLA - Natrol
DIET PLAN AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: in order for CLA to assist in weight loss, it is NECESSARY to program a controlled, healthy and possibly low-calorie diet, associated with a planned physical activity adapted to individual needs.
Also in this case it is possible to describe some studies conducted on animals that associate CLA with arginine, recording positive effects on the increase of lean mass, but which make little sense, given the absence of the equivalent in humans.
Tonalin CLA side effects - Natrol
Despite the absence of serious side effects recorded following the assumption of CLA, there are various reports on possible worsening effects in various pathological conditions:
- Increase of inflammatory biomarkers (c-reactive protein and white blood cells): despite these evidences, CLA has been shown to be particularly useful precisely for its anti-inflammatory properties.
- Increased Insulin Resistance: This effect, which appears to be more pronounced for the T10, C12 isomer, drops significantly when using an equally composed mixture.
- Increased oxidative stress: increase in lipoperoxidation levels.
- Dyslipidemic effect: associated with the T10 isomer, C12 results in a reduction in plasma HDL cholesterol levels, with an increase in LDL cholesterol.
Precautions for use Tonalin CLA - Natrol
The product is contraindicated in cases of renal or hepatic pathology, cardiovascular disease and / or hypertension, during pregnancy, during lactation and under the age of 14. In case of prolonged use (over 6/8 weeks), the opinion is required. of the doctor.
