Branched chain amino acids - Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine: also known as branched-chain amino acids, they are among the essential amino acids and as such must necessarily be introduced through the diet. A healthy diet is able to provide the correct amount of these amino acids with various foods, both of animal and vegetable origin. Like the other amino acids, they are absorbed by the brush border in the apical portion of the enterocyte, through transport mechanisms facilitated by sodium, and introduced into the bloodstream from the basal lateral domain. Unlike the other amino acids, however, they manage to bypass the hepatic metabolism, probably due to the absence of specific enzymes, and reach the muscle tissue where they represent about 1/3 of the total amino acid pull; and it is precisely at the muscle level that the branched amino acids carry out their biological functions:
- By replenishing the Krebs cycle with oxaloacetate and pyruvate, during prolonged fasting or intense physical activity;
- Re-entering the synthesis of glucose starting from non-glucidic metabolites;
- By increasing the levels of alanine and facilitating its transport to the liver;
- Representing an important substrate for protein synthesis;
- Restoring the contractile functions of myofibrils;
- Protecting the muscle from excessive catabolism.
The wide use, and many times the abuse, in sports practice, is due not only to these properties universally recognized by the scientific world, but also to other particular abilities, much debated but which would represent the most precious benefits for the athlete:
- REDUCTION OF THE FEELING OF FATIGUE;
- PROMOTION OF ANABOLIC PROCESSES.
BCAA and reduction of the feeling of fatigue
One of the metabolic pathways involved in the onset of the sensation of fatigue is that associated with the production of a neurotransmitter with sedative capacity, which is serotonin. The main precursor of this molecule is an aromatic amino acid, tryptophan, which through specific transporters is in able to cross the blood-brain barrier, facilitating the synthesis of serotonin. The mechanisms that determine the increase in plasma levels of free tryptophan, in addition to dietary intake, are mainly two:
- Increased proteolysis;
- Detachment from albumin.
During normal physical activity, and in particular the more lasting one, there is an increase in lipolysis, with the consequent increase in free fatty acids, which can compete with tryptophan for binding to "albumin. This competitive action, together" to proteolysis induced by intense physical exercise, it shifts the balance towards the free form of tryptophan, which can therefore effectively cross the blood-brain barrier and represent a fundamental substrate for the synthesis of serotonin and the consequent onset of fatigue.BCAAs can reduce this effect, on the one hand by preserving the muscle from damage induced by strenuous exercise, and on the other by competing with tryptophan for the blood brain barrier transporter.
BCAAs and promotion of anabolic processes
Starting from the assumption that the various experts seem to agree in considering the BCAAs useful in preserving muscle integrity and in reducing the proteolysis induced by intense physical exercise, preliminary studies conducted in vitro have shown how these can also increase the levels of protein synthesis. Of course, this action is independent of the simple action of substrate against protein synthesis, but calls for more important capabilities, such as hormonal modulation and the regulation of intracellular signaling.
Regarding hormonal modulation, there are several studies in the literature, many of which disagree, which highlight how BCAAs can increase the levels of GH, testosterone and reduce those of cortisol. However, the lack of understanding of a molecular mechanism, and the low reproducibility of the data, make this hypothesis unreliable.
Vitamin B6 - also known as pyridoxine, is transformed and phosphorylated in the liver into pyridoxal phosphate, an important coenzyme involved in numerous key reactions of amino acid metabolism (oxidative transamination and deamination), lipid (synthesis of sphingolipids) and glucose. It is therefore easy to understand the usefulness of this vitamin in supporting the correct oxidation and transamination of branched-chain amino acids, improving their metabolic-nutritional action.
The daily requirement of vitamin B6 is around 1 / 1.5 mg, but even in this case the episodes of deficiency are very rare.
Rationale for use - Mega Ram Plus - Eurosup
Although the experimentation of BCAAs in sports has been underway for years, a conclusion has not yet been reached on the beneficial effects related to their use. In fact, only the metabolic and my protective role of branched-chain amino acids seems to be demonstrated, while the anti-fatigue effect is still to be investigated. Further studies, moreover, will be indispensable to clarify the potential modulator role both on hormonal secretion and on intracellular signaling. given the numerous applications that these can derive not only in the sports world.
Method of use recommended by the company - Mega Ram Plus - Eurosup
5 tablets once a day with water or juice, 20-30 minutes before training.
Method of use in sports - Mega Ram Plus - Eurosup
When it comes to amino acid or protein supplements, it is very important to consider that an effective supplementary protocol inevitably involves the observation of the athlete's physio-pathological, athletic, nutritional and dietary aspects. Despite the presence of repeated and recommended dosages, it therefore becomes difficult to define an effective and valid dose for everyone. The various studies, among other things, use very different dosages, also depending on the objectives to be achieved and the hypotheses to demonstrate: in this regard, they range from 0.2 gr / kg / day for a month to increase the basal levels of GH to 12 gr / day to reduce plasma levels of creatinkinase and lactic dehydrogenase following intense exercise. Various dosages are also recommended in sports: from 83mg / kg / day for amateur sportsmen to 250mg / kg / day for sports competitive cyclist.
Despite the enormous variability, some constants must always be taken into account:
- Keep the Ile / Leu / Val ratio at 2: 1: 1 as much as possible
- Prefer to take on an empty stomach
- Prefer to take about 60 "before training, or in the immediate post work out.
The product in question allows to satisfy the average BCAA requirement of a 70kg man, with only 5 tablets per day, which could be taken before training or distributed between pre and post work-out.
Sinergie Mega Ram Plus - Eurosup
BCAA + Arginine: a study carried out on 8 healthy volunteers shows a significant reduction in phenylalanine levels (marker of muscle proteolysis) following physical exercise preceded by integration with 2 g of BCAA and 0.5 g of arginine.
BCAA + Carbohydrates: some studies show a useful synergy to reduce the feeling of fatigue during athletic performance (potential role of BCAAs), and improve performance (energy role of carbohydrates). In the post work out, however, BCAAs seem to improve insulin sensitivity, therefore the resynthesis of glycogen in the presence of CHO, while high glycemic index carbohydrates, by increasing insulin secretion, can both favor the absorption of the same BCAAs and support the anabolic phase
Mega Ram Plus side effects - Eurosup
Known are the long-term side effects of a diet too rich in protein or amino acids. Damage to the kidney, dehydration induced by increased urinary secretion, lipidemic alterations and associated pathologies, tissue acidosis and bone demineralization, are just some of the consequences of a prolonged unbalanced diet.
Acute BCAA ingestion appears to be well tolerated and free from side effects, even when concentrations rise to 450mg per pound of body mass.
Precautions for using Mega Ram Plus - Eurosup
The product is contraindicated in cases of renal or hepatic pathology, cardiovascular disease and / or hypertension, in pregnancy, during lactation, under 12 years and in adolescents not yet trained.
In case of prolonged use (over 6/8 weeks) the doctor's opinion is necessary.
