The hydrobike has no wheels and is devoid of any electrical or electronic device. Basically built in stainless metal, with very few synthetic elements - such as the saddle and the adjustment knobs - it has an elementary structure, sometimes even without a flywheel. resistant, designed to work in total immersion in the water (fresh, chlorinated) of a delimited basin such as a swimming pool.
The term hydrobike is often used to indicate the activity of acquacycling or acquaspinning, which is why in the following article we will use them (improperly) as if they were real synonyms.
This fitness model is, after all, quite recent but quite widespread among swimming facilities. As well as "aquajogging", acquacycling was born only after the great precursor of all "water aerobics": "acquagym (proposed at the end of the" 80s).
Aquaspinning requires the aquatic environment of a swimming pool, requires the presence of an instructor by the pool and, being essentially a group activity, has a very important social component.
However, the "hydrobike" is "sweeter" than spinning, it allows the combination of the need to perform a pedaling movement and the need to exploit the microgravity of the water to avoid vertebral compressions, and mainly solicits the aerobic metabolism (training at low o medium intensity and high volume); unlike spinning, acquacycling also involves the upper limbs. Aquaspinning is recommended as an activity for the elderly, overweight people, those with little training experience or lack of motivation, people with back problems, etc.
In this regard, the height of the pool water can make a difference; in fact, staying immersed up to the pelvis has a very different impact on the organism compared to an almost total immersion - up to the shoulders. Another not negligible detail is the presence or absence of the adjustable flywheel on the hydrobike; the possibility of modulating the resistance obviously allows you to create sessions of greater difficulty, thus consuming more calories and increasing overall training power.
