E405 PROPYLENE GLYCOL ALGINATE or PROPYLENGLYCOL ALGINATE
Propylene glycol alginate is an additive derived from E400, but unlike the latter it also contains propylene glycol, which can cause, if taken in large quantities (ie not at the prescribed and recommended doses), liver disorders and reduction absorption of minerals and vitamins. At the moment the research on this additive is still contradictory.
Propylene glycol alginate can be contained in various foods - such as ice cream, puddings, mayonnaise, milkshakes, fresh spreadable cheeses, aromatic sauces, packaged salads, shellfish dressing, etc. - with a specific thickening function (without any nutritional value) .
Within the recommended doses it does not appear to have any negative side effects.
ADI DOSE: 25 mg per kg of body weight (70 mg / kg according to other sources)
