E463 HYDROXYPROPYLCELLULOSE
Hydroxypropylcellulose is obtained from cellulose, the main constituent polysaccharide of wood and all plant structures, chemically propylated.
Compared to cellulose, it has a better solubility in water (and being soluble it can be fermented in the intestine).
Hydroxypropylcellulose is mainly used as a thickening agent, anti-aggregating and emulsifying agent but also, outside the food sector, as a wood filler.
It is a compound that can be contained in different products.
High concentrations of hydroxypropylcellulose can cause intestinal problems, such as bloating, constipation and diarrhea.
