Brilliant Black BN is a black azo dye of synthetic origin.
This dye can be contained in various foods, such as German caviar, fish roe, licorice, candies, creams, ice creams, popsicles, sauces and some sweets.
It is advisable to consume it within the maximum recommended dose, because it can cause allergic reactions especially in those subjects who have allergy to aspirin or are asthmatic.
Brilliant Black BN, in combination with benzoates, can cause hyperactivity in children.
Some scholars think it could also be carcinogenic, but there are no certainties about it.
