Type of Exercise
Concentration Curl is a one-joint exercise
Concentration Curl: Execution
The starting position sees the athlete sitting with the legs apart, the right elbow is extended and resting on the inside of the leg near the right knee. The shoulder is internally rotated so that the right arm points towards the left thigh. The handlebar grip is supine. The wrist is straight or flexed, but never extended; if it is kept flexed, the contribution to the flexion of the elbow is reduced by: superficial flexor of the fingers, radial flexor of the carpus, ulnar flexor of the carpus and long palmar. The left hand or elbow can be placed on the left leg for greater stability. The execution consists in flexing the elbow, taking care not to change the position of the rest of the body. The movement ends just before the dumbbell touches the athlete's shoulder or torso. This exercise reduces the importance of the brachial biceps (particularly the short head) as an elbow flexor. By emphasizing the isometric contraction at the end of the concentric one, the involvement of the brachialis increases. In this exercise the hip adductors are important stabilizers of the movement. The description refers to the training of the right limb; follow in a mirror image for the other arm.
