Man marking means taking over a player from the opposing team.
The closer the opponent gets to our goal (or the ball), the tighter the marking must be. If, conversely, the opponent is far from the ball, the marking will be wider, therefore less nagging.
Defensive diagonal: control of your opponent and the possibility of helping your teammates.
Principles governing man marking in reference to the opponent
- be positioned between the opponent and the goal
- have, under visual control, the opponent and the ball at the same time.
The Libero was born to guarantee a final cover: it is responsible, for the whole width of the field, of the depth from behind the defenders, up to their own goal. He is the one who determines the last line of defense and is therefore responsible for any shortening or lengthening of the team on the pitch.
Man marking system: team in which the defensive department applies the man marking system.
In the non-predetermined dislocation it is preferred to adopt a wait-and-see tactic, thus reducing the space for the opponents.
