The Pap test can be performed as part of the national screening program for cervical cancer (also called cervical cancer) or as a routine check during the gynecological examination, as a preventive tool.
The introduction of the Pap test has significantly contributed to reducing mortality from cervical cancer, so it should be performed regularly, every three years, by all women after the start of sexual activity or, in any case, starting from 25 years of age.

For this reason, it is important to regularly undergo gynecological checks and screening tests (such as the Pap test or HPV test), which are useful for identifying precancerous lesions related to human papilloma virus infection and to intervene before these evolve into carcinoma.
