Usually, penile fractures occur during particularly intense sexual intercourse or vigorous masturbation, following excessive folding of the male sexual organ or striking it against the partner's pelvic bone. Less often, trauma can be of another nature (e.g. animal bites, accidental falls and so on).
Indeed, a "fracture" s "means a sudden and painful laceration of the lining (tunic albuginea) of one or both of the cylindrical structures of the penis (corpora cavernosa), which normally accommodate the blood flow necessary to maintain an erection.
The diagnosis of this condition is mainly clinical, but imaging techniques such as ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging can be used to quantify the extent of the damage (assess the location and extent of the trauma) and plan the type of treatment more appropriate.
The treatment of choice of the penile fracture is surgical. If timely, the intervention allows to repair the injured tissues, favor the resorption of the hematoma and prevent the anomalies of the penile curvature or permanent erectile dysfunction.
, cause an erection. The trauma causes an abundant blood leakage, which spreads to the surrounding subcutaneous tissues.
At the same time, the patient typically feels a very intense pain, followed by an "immediate detumescence (loss of" erection) of the organ and a "evident deviation of the penis, which appears deformed and swollen.
