Generality
Fibromatosis is a particular medical condition characterized by the presence of benign tumors, called fibroids, which originate from the cells of the subcutaneous connective tissues or the dermis.
The precise causes of fibromatosis still remain a mystery. For some doctors, the list of possible triggers includes: trauma to the skin, hormonal changes, diabetes, liver disease and hypertension.
There are many different types of fibromatosis. Some types mainly affect young people (juvenile fibromatosis); other types, on the other hand, preferably affect adults (adult fibromatosis). Then there are superficial type fibromatosis and deep type fibromatosis; superficial fibromatosis is clinically less severe than deep fibromatosis.
Generally, the treatment of fibromatosis is surgical.
