In addition to the state of hyperalgesia, many patients present with a number of other symptoms, which includes:
- Asthenia (chronic fatigue and debilitating fatigue);
- Mood and sleep disturbances;
- Irritable bowel syndrome.
Fibromyalgia can be defined as "fibromyalgia syndrome", as particular clinical signs can occur at the same time. The coexistence of this set of disorders helps to determine the most likely diagnosis, although not all patients experience the full set of symptoms associated with fibromyalgia.
Additionally, fibromyalgia is often associated with other disorders, including:
- Psychiatric disorders, such as depression and anxiety;
- Stress-related disorders, such as post-traumatic stress disorder.
