The position of the pancreas causes the pancreas to reside in the vicinity of: pylorus of the stomach, duodenum, spleen, ascending mesocolon, choledochus, aorta, inferior vena cava, superior mesenteric artery, superior mesenteric veins, splenic vein and splenic artery.
The pancreas is in a strategic position to better fulfill its digestive function and its role as a blood sugar regulator.

  • At the level of the transpiloric plane, head of the pancreas excluded (which, on the other hand, is lower than the transpiloric plane). The transpiloric plane is the ideal horizontal line that, on the human body, indicates the position, as well as the body and tail of the pancreas, of: pylorus of the stomach, anterior end of the 9th pair of ribs, bottom of the gallbladder, celiac trunk, mesenteric artery superior, terminal part of the spinal cord, initial part of the filum terminalis, renal vessels, middle adrenal arteries and hilum of the kidneys.
