Unlike other types of cough, psychogenic cough does not originate from disorders affecting the respiratory system, the gastrointestinal system or the immune system; rather it represents a sort of somatization of basic anxious or nervous states; therefore, it originates from disorders that affect the psychic sphere of the individual.
