What is that

Hadrontherapy - also known as hadron therapy - is a particular advanced form of radiotherapy, used in the treatment of inoperable tumors and / or which have proved resistant to other radiotherapy treatments.

Unlike conventional radiotherapy, hadrontherapy is able to carry out its action more selectively, allowing the targeted and localized destruction of malignant cells, particularly when these are found in delicate and sensitive organs (such as, for example , at the cerebral level, where precision is essential in order not to damage the surrounding healthy tissues which are extremely important for the survival of the organism).
Hadrontherapy is a rather sophisticated therapeutic technique, which requires special instruments to be performed. On the Italian territory it is carried out at the National Center for Oncological Hadrontherapy (CNAO) based in Pavia, active since January 1, 2014. It is a purpose-built facility. wanted by the Ministry of Health, which deals with the treatment of the aforementioned forms of cancer and, at the same time, deals with research and development.
