INTRODUCTION
This report is based on the information I collected in a state primary school in the municipality of Brindisi. The pupils who answered the questions of the questionnaire administered attend the fourth class, have a stature between 1.33 and 1.57 meters, age between 9 and 10 years, and weight between 26 and 53 Kg. The survey was carried out in the presence of one of the children's teachers, with whose help I tried to give the children the necessary clarifications to carry out the questionnaire, avoiding that they could in any way be influenced by my words.
There are numerous topics on which I considered it appropriate to focus:
- the interest that the children showed for the sport to be practiced and that for the sport to follow as spectators;
- the interest that children show in particular for football to be watched on television, with reference to cheering;
- the interest in the practice of the same sport on the part of children;
- the effect of the mass media on children's conceptions of sport;
- the effect of the media on the diffusion of a particular sport (with particular attention to football);
- the influence that sports structures, with their presence or absence, have on the increase in the number of practitioners of certain specific sports (in particular football);
- the contrast between the concept of sport that is being promoted today and that which, in my opinion, should be promoted;
- the influence that culture has on the conception and practice of sport in children;
- physical education in compulsory schools (especially in elementary schools) in the current historical period.
The data collected by the questionnaire were elaborated on the basis of information drawn from different texts (dealing with different disciplines) and were used by me with the aim of producing opinions precisely argued with as much scientific rigor as possible. Below are the results of the questionnaire I administered to the group of elementary school students and, finally, the comment on them with relative conclusions.
