INSANITY ® is a commercial product which, for a fee, offers a standardized service; it includes: 10 workouts, a defined nutrition plan of "Elite", a calendar with Tracker Fit Test to monitor the progress made, and online support.
INSANITY ® is a slimming, toning and training program; its name attracts the attention of the most naive because, thanks to the stereotypes widespread in the world of amateur fitness, the "difficulty" of training is understood as a synonym of "great effectiveness" in obtaining results. Furthermore, indiscriminately, INSANITY ® promises to reach the goal of a hard and dry body no later than 60 days.
The creator himself considers INSANITY ® a protocol "for fools" ... and he is not completely wrong! INSANITY ® completely ignores the level of preparation of the client and offers even complex exercises with very rapid execution, increasing the risk of bad postures, inappropriate movements and consequent muscle, tendon or joint trauma.
INSANITY ® training method, tools and principles
The INSANITY ® method is based on some training principles, which are:
- High Intensity Training or HIT: in Italian, high intensity training; INSANITY ® offers relatively short but extremely intense training sessions, which allow you to reach calorie consumption of nearly 1,000 kcal per session. It would be interesting to analyze the origin of this energy, probably obtained (given the level of physical preparation of average users) also from the combustion of muscle proteins.
- Interval Training or IT: in Italian, interval training; INSANITY ® allows (so to speak) to keep the intensity of effort high thanks to the insertion of short pauses between the various executions. It is a concept widely used in both fitness and athletic training; a common example is Circuit Training (AC) or Circuit Training (CT), in all its types.
- No training tools: INSANITY ® allows you to train ONLY in free body, juggling the "increase in intensity" by increasing the speed of resistance to speed, rather than on the resistant force instead typical of circuit training; the muscular contractions are of various nature and a libertine use is made of plyometrics. Also in this case it would be interesting to observe the result of a series of jumps in speed for an obese person or for an injured knee or ankle, or even just for any sedentary.
The workouts offered by the INSANITY ® package are 10, for a duration ranging between 30 "and 86", to be repeated consecutively for a period of 60 days (frequency and organization specified in the program). More in detail:
- DVD 1: Practice test and evaluation of training level (30 "training)
- DVD 2: cardio-plyometric circuit for fat burning (42 "workout)
- DVD 3: power and cardio-resistance to promote toning and increase definition (40 "workout)
- DVD 4: Cardiac training-Shaun to help accelerate physical recovery (33 "workout)
- DVD 5: pure cardio alternating with cardio ABS, then at very high intensity without pauses (55 "workout)
- DVD 6: cardio and rebalancing to break up the 2 months of training and prepare the body for the next step (37 "training)
- DVD 7: Interval circuit at maximum intensity with evaluation of training status (86 "training)
- DVD 8: Plyometric circuit interspersed at maximum training intensity (55 "training)
- DVD 9: Maximal Heart Training and Ultra-High Intensity ABS Cardio (65 "Workout)
- DVD 10: maximal recovery and stretching in preparation for another macro-cycle (47 "workout).
The creator of INSANITY ® guarantees the effectiveness of the treatment with a refund offer, in case of dissatisfaction with the protocol, by means of the customer service; it would be interesting to evaluate the clauses and constraints that mediate this statement.
Personally I consider INSANITY ® an interesting means of promoting weight loss, toning and overall cardio-circulatory training, with an increase in dexterity and agility ... but exclusively in the hands of a good sports technician or personal trainer; the risks of injury for a neophyte who decides to undertake the "INSANITY ® are definitely too high and therefore absolutely unacceptable. Its trade and related advertising deserve to be" moderate or simply "clarified" by explaining in detail the various drawbacks related to the risks of injury but, as happens in all commercial operations that move large volumes of money, guaranteeing the health of consumers at the expense of earnings is a simple utopia.
