The atherogenicity index of plasma is calculated using the following mathematical formula
Plasma atherogenicity index = [Log (Triglycerides / HDL cholesterol)] *
PLEASE NOTE: The triglycerides and HDL cholesterol values are expressed in mmoles / L; to convert from mg / dL to mmol / L, or vice versa, you can use our automatic calculation module.

Interpretation of results
The plasma atherogenicity index is a predictor of cardiovascular risk, especially in some categories of patients (it has been studied mainly in diabetics).
The practically negligible cost (it is a simple calculation formula operated on two common blood chemistry parameters) and the potential clinical implications suggest a greater diffusion of the plasma atherogenicity index in the general population.
