Fingers of the Hand: What and What Are They? Anatomy, Function and Main Pathologies

Known as the thumb, index, middle, ring and little fingers, the fingers of the hand include bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, blood vessels, nerves and, of course, the covering skin; the fingers of the hand, moreover, are provided with nails, at the extremities of the dorsal face, and with the so-called dermatoglyphs, at the extremities of the palmar face.
The fingers of the hand can be subject to various medical conditions, including: bone fractures, burns, skin wounds, synovial cysts, arthrosis of the hands, carpal tunnel syndrome, etc.

Examples:

• The second toe is lateral to the big toe, but medial to the third toe.
• The ulna is medial to the radius, which is lateral to the ulna (this is true if it is assumed that the upper limb is extended along the side and with the palm of the hand facing the viewer).
