Generality
A dermatofibroma is a benign skin tumor resulting from an abnormal proliferation of fibroblasts of the fibrous connective tissues of the dermis.
The onset of a dermatofibroma involves the formation, usually on the legs and / or arms, of one or more hard, red-brown nodules ranging in size from 0.5 to 1.5 cm.

Currently, the precise causes of dermatofibroma remain unknown. According to some doctors, however, the condition could result from an adverse reaction to minor skin trauma, such as insect bites.
A benign tumor such as dermatofibroma cannot transform into a malignant neoplasm.
Provided only when the nodule (s) are symptomatic, treatment of dermatofibroma is generally surgical.
