Male Hypogonadism

Generality

Male hypogonadism is the condition whereby a man's gonads - the testes - no longer produce physiological quantities of testosterone.
Testosterone is the main male sex hormone.

The presence of male hypogonadism may depend on an inherent problem in the testicles (in this case we speak of primary male hypogonadism) or on a problem at the level of the hypothalamus-pituitary axis, which controls the activity of the testicles (secondary male hypogonadism) .
The symptoms of male hypogonadism consist essentially in the failure to develop secondary sexual characteristics, a process that depends on testosterone.
Treatment of male hypogonadism varies according to whether the hypogonadism present is primary or secondary.
