Shutterstock Metoprolol - Chemical Structure
To carry out its therapeutic action, metoprolol must be taken orally. In fact, it can be found in several medicines formulated as tablets or as prolonged-release tablets. These medicines, to be sold, require a repeatable medical prescription (RR); however, being classified as class A drugs, their cost can be reimbursed by the National Health System (SSN), in whole or in part, depending on the case (it may be necessary to pay a ticket).
Metoprolol is also available in a parenteral medicine (Seloken® solution for injection for intravenous use), the use of which is however reserved for the hospital setting only and, therefore, will not be considered in this article.
