Dexamethasone can be used in many situations in the treatment of various disorders characterized by inflammatory states. It can be found in various medicines suitable for different routes of administration, both alone and in combination with other active ingredients. All medicines containing dexamethasone can only be sold upon presentation of a medical prescription; some of them, being classified as class C drugs, are entirely paid by the citizen; for others, however, the cost can be reimbursed by the National Health System (SSN) as they are classified as Class A drugs.
Finally, there are dexamethasone-based medicines whose use is reserved for the hospital setting only; such products will not be considered in this article.
