The practice of spinning requires the use of a special fixed bicycle, equipped with a particular flywheel resistance, therefore similar but not equal to a traditional exercise bike. The sessions are piloted by an instructor, generally positioned in front or at the head of the class, who generally "pulls" and motivates the group.
Spinning workouts are mainly aimed at training general endurance but, based on rhythm variations and repetitions, thus requiring a considerable energy expenditure, they also positively intervene in the optimization of lactic acid metabolism. Spinning is therefore a high intensity fitness discipline. - High Intensity Training (HIT) - and interval training - Interval Training (IT); overall it could be classified among the High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).
Note: there are also types of indoor cycling practiced on bicycles with wheels, such as track cycling in the velodrome, or artistic cycling and cycle ball - a sort of European football on wheels.
