E350 SODIUM MALATE
Sodium malate is the sodium salt of malic acid (see E296), a natural acid.
Sodium malate is used as a buffer or as a flavoring.
It can be contained in various food products, such as soft drinks, pastry products, fruit juices and jams (with the wording as required) etc.

For the moment, there is no maximum consumption dose, but the use of some of its isomers (D, L- and D-isomers) is not allowed in baby food (due to the absence of the enzymes necessary to metabolize these substances ).
There are currently no known negative side effects inherent in the use of sodium malate as a food additive.
