E155 - BROWN HT or CHOCOLATE BROWN (C.I. 20285)

Brown HT is a brown azo dye of synthetic origin.
This dye can be contained essentially in bakery and pastry products.
It can give reactions of hyperactivity, asthma, rhinitis, urticaria and insomnia; moreover, if present in high concentrations, it can cause possible sedimentation in the kidney and lymphatic system. In combination with benzoates it can cause hyperactivity in children.
According to some scholars it could be carcinogenic.
