Generality
Transaminases are a group of enzymes found in various tissues, but concentrated mainly in the liver cells. Here, they regulate deamination, that is, they catalyze the reaction that removes the amino group from the amino acids (necessary, for example, to transform excess amino acids into energy).
- Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH or lactic dehydrogenase) is an enzyme found in the myocardium, skeletal muscle, liver, kidney, pancreas, erythrocytes and lungs. In these locations, it is used by the body to metabolize sugar and make it available as energy that can be used by the cells.
- Gamma glutamyl transpepetidase (gamma-GT or GGT) is an enzyme found in many tissues, including the liver, small intestine, spleen, pancreas, and kidneys. This parameter is particularly useful for assessing the health of the liver and biliary tract.
