Pachymetry

The execution of pachymetry is useful for diagnosing and evaluating the evolution of some ocular pathologies, such as keratoconus, corneal edema or glaucoma. The examination also allows to study the anterior surface of the eye for the programming of corneal surgery or refractive correction.

During the examination, a probe - called pachymeter - is gently placed near or in contact with the cornea, to measure its thickness. The results thus obtained are interpreted by the doctor, who will provide the most appropriate indications for the management of the clinical case. .

This test is also used in patients who are undergoing corneal surgery (such as cross-linking), refractive correction or transplantation.
