In the form of a supplement, it is used to prevent and treat specific deficiencies (hypovitaminosis and avitaminosis) and as a remedy for migraines. It can be administered orally or parenterally and its administration is almost always well tolerated; normal doses are considered safe even during pregnancy.
Riboflavin was discovered in 1920, isolated in 1933 and synthesized in 1935. It is included in the World Health Organization (WHO) "Essential Medicines List", which mentions the safest and most effective ones needed by the health system. Riboflavin is available as a generic and over-the-counter drug. Dietary supplementation of vitamin B2 for about 30 days has an approximate cost of 23 euros / 22 US dollars.
