NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION
NEWS FROM THE SCIENTIFIC WORLD
Many, over 10,000, are the studies in the literature that have experimented with the use of multivitamin and multimineral supplements in different conditions, from severe pathologies such as cancer to metabolic pathologies such as diabetes, from dietary deficiencies widespread in "industrialized" populations to the needs Despite a very rich literature, the results regarding the absolute effectiveness of supplements such as supradyn are still difficult to interpret, given the presence of controversial and sometimes contradictory data. For this reason, most of the international health authorities are at work in the attempt to extrapolate statistically significant conclusions, which can translate into a series of experimentally based indications, warnings, and suggestions, useful to the user in the correct evaluation of these products.
At the moment, the first indications clarify some doubts regarding the role of vitamins and minerals in the preventive action, highlighting how with the exception of vitamin E, Vitamin C and beta carotene (effective in reducing both the incidence and mortality from cancers gastric level), these nutrients are unable to prevent degenerative and neoplastic diseases. Even for these vitamins, with the exception of C, there are however some studies with conflicting results; according to some, the single integration of vitamin E or vitamin A in large doses could even increase the incidence of some neoplastic pathologies.
More or less similar results were also obtained for the much publicized ability to improve cognitive abilities or sports performance.
Of course, a separate discussion must be made for all those pathologies, or for all those deficient conditions for which integration becomes the only and effective way to guarantee the correct daily nutritional intake. It is therefore very important to reiterate this concept, as it represents the key to the correct interpretation of the much publicized effects of the various supradyn-type supplements. The common practice of manufacturers and sellers is in fact to generalize the results obtained on animal models, or on patients suffering from particular pathologies or serious deficiencies, extending them also to healthy individuals. This manipulation of information is very clear to those who, by profession or passion, are in daily contact with the dozens and dozens of publications that try to characterize it. the effects, while definitely escaping the average user, who initially attracted by the advertised effects obtainable with the ingestion of a simple tablet, is often disappointed by the absence of tangible results.
SUPRADYN AND SPORT
Several studies, although not many, have been carried out to test the activities of multivitamin and multimineral supplements, such as supradyn, in improving athletic performance. In most cases, the result seems to be the same: absence of improvement in athletic performance following prolonged intake (7/8 months) of supplements of this kind. While not having a strictly ergogenic role (as stated by many manufacturers), these multivitamin and multimineral cocktails were able to guarantee a "protective action against the oxidative damage induced by intense physical exercise, protecting the athlete from the lipid peroxidation responsible for the deterioration of cellular function. This effect of supradyn and analogues, although still discussed, would be attributable to the presence of minerals and vitamins with strong antioxidant power, such as vitamins E and vitamin C.
