PYRALVEX® is a drug based on salicylic acid + glycosidic extract of rhubarb
THERAPEUTIC GROUP: Antiinfectives and antiseptics for local oral treatment
Indications PYRALVEX ® Salicylic acid + glucosidic extract of rhubarb
PYRALVEX® is a drug indicated as a local antiseptic in the course of infections of the oral cavity such as gingivitis, stomatitis, oro-pharyngitis and alveolar pyorrhea.
Mechanism of action PYRALVEX ® Salicylic acid + glucosidic extract of rhubarb
The antiseptic and anti-infective action of PYRALVEX® is due to the presence of two important active ingredients, used in this case for local use: salicylic acid and rhubarb extract.
Salicylic acid is a carboxylic acid of natural origin, with a natural exfoliating and anti-inflammatory activity, which in small doses and for topical use is important for its keratolytic and bacteriostatic effect, therefore useful in controlling the evolution of inflammatory and infectious.
The high irritating power, towards the gastric mucosa, obviously limits it, limiting it to the topical route.
The carbohydrate extract of rhubarb, on the other hand, has a high anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity, useful in soothing the mucosa subjected to the inflammatory stimulus, facilitating its recovery and at the same time also guaranteeing an improvement in the clinical picture.
Recent scientific evidence has attributed to this last active ingredient also an antiseptic and antibacterial activity, particularly effective against gram positive and gram negative bacteria of the oral cavity, and facilitated by the presence of salicylic acid, which guarantees a greater permeability of these extracts in the mucosa subjected to microbiological action.

Warnings PYRALVEX ® Salicylic acid + glucosidic extract of rhubarb
Prolonged use of PYRALVEX® could lead to the onset of local sensitization reactions, sometimes severe enough to require discontinuation of therapy.
If the lesions do not improve following the application of PYRALVEX®, it would be advisable to consult your doctor and arrange for an adjustment of the current therapy.
It is always important to consider that sometimes lesions of the oral mucosa can be the first signs of clinically relevant systemic pathologies.
It is recommended to avoid ingestion of the drug and contact with eyes.
PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING
The topical use of the product, the absence of a noteworthy systemic absorption of its active ingredients and the lack of studies capable of characterizing the safety profile of the drug for fetal health, make the potential effects of PYRALVEX® unpredictable for fetal health.
For this reason its use during pregnancy should be limited exclusively to cases of real need, carried out under the supervision of your doctor.
