FENISTIL ® is a drug based on Dimethindene maleate
THERAPEUTIC GROUP: Antipruritic including antihistamines, anesthetics etc.
Indications FENISTIL (gel) ® Dimethindene
FENISTIL ® is indicated in the treatment of itchy skin forms, sunburn and insect bites.
Mechanism of action FENISTIL (gel) ® Dimethindene
Dimetindene, active principle of FENISTIL ®, is a drug belonging to the vast category of histamine antagonists of H1 receptors, therefore endowed with a conspicuous antipruritic, anti-edematous and anti-inflammatory power.
By antagonizing the effects of histamine, Dimetindene in addition to inducing the aforementioned effects is also able to exert a modest local analgesic action, important in relieving pain generally associated with irritative and itchy skin manifestations.
The aforementioned activities are supported by advantageous pharmacokinetic properties which by limiting the systemic absorption of Dimethindene, following its topical application, control the incidence of the classic side effects associated with systemic therapy with antihistamines, including mainly those affecting the central nervous system.
