DIFFERIN ® is a drug based on Adapalene
THERAPEUTIC GROUP: Anti-acne preparations for topical use
Indications DIFFERIN ® Adapalene
DIFFERIN® is indicated in the treatment of vulgar acne in all its manifestations.
Mechanism of action DIFFERIN ® Adapalene
DIFFERIN ® is a medicinal product based on Adapalene, a third generation retinoid widely used in the treatment of acne.
The comedolotic and keratolytic activity is due to the ability to selectively bind the nuclear retinoic acid receptor, modulating gene expression in an anti-inflammatory and antiproliferative sense.
The anti-inflammatory stimulus on the one hand and the control of the proliferation of keratinocytes on the other allow an effective control of the inflammatory evolution of the skin lesion, thus allowing a clear improvement in the quality of the skin and normalizing the production of keratin so as to limit the " hyperkeratinization typical of acne pathology.
The aforementioned mechanisms, also supported by the control of inflammatory chemotaxis, are supported by the good pharmacokinetic properties that reduce the absorption of topically applied Adapalene to a minimum, thus reducing the potential systemic side effects.
Studies carried out and clinical efficacy
TOLERABILITY AND EFFECTIVENESS OF ADAPALENE
J Cosmet Dermatol. 2013 Jun; 12: 103-7. doi: 10.1111 / jocd.12031.
Efficacy and safety of adapalene gel 0.1% and 0.3% and tretinoin gel 0.05% for acne vulgaris: results of a single-center, randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial on Mexican patients (skin type III-IV).
Tirado-Sánchez A, Espíndola YS, Ponce-Olivera RM, Bonifaz A.
Interesting study that demonstrates how the treatment of acne with Adapalene or Trethionine produces the same therapeutic effect, although the first active principle is better tolerated than Trethionine in Mexican patients.
"SEBOSTATIC ACTIVITY OF ADAPALENE"
J Dermatol Sci. 2013 Jun; 70: 204-10. doi: 10.1016 / j.jdermsci.2013.02.003. Epub 2013 Feb 14.
Adapalene suppresses sebum accumulation via the inhibition of triacylglycerol biosynthesis and perilipin expression in differentiated hamster sebocytes in vitro.
Sato T, Akimoto N, Kitamura K, Kurihara H, Hayashi N, Ito A.
Experimental study that demonstrates how Adapalene can contribute to the improvement of acne lesions, also ensuring better control over sebum production, probably through the control of local triglyceride synthesis
ADAPALENE vs BENZOYL PEROXIDE / CLINDAMYCIN
J Drugs Dermatol. 2012 Jun; 11: 714-22.
Effects of benzoyl peroxide 5% clindamycin combination gel versus adapalene 0.1% on quality of life in patients with mild to moderate acne vulgaris: a randomized single-blind study.
Guerra-Tapia A.
Study that demonstrates how the combination of Benzoyl peroxide and Clindamycin can guarantee a faster improvement in the quality of life of patients suffering from acne than Adapalene, despite the fact that safety and tolerability are similar.
