- Essential oil rich in terpenes and bergaptenes (limonene, linalyl acetate, terpinen, linalool, pinene, geranium).
- Flavonoids (they do not derive from drugs, but are contained in bergamot juice and seem to have interesting lipid-lowering properties).

In addition to its use in perfumery, the essential oil of bergamot has anti-inflammatory, disinfectant and healing properties, while the juice obtained from the fruit seems to have a cholesterol-lowering activity and a potential anti-tumor activity.
