In order for trifluoperazine to be effective, it must be taken by mouth; in fact it is found in medicines formulated as tablets for oral use. In our country, to date (August 2021), trifluoperazine is available in a medicinal product with the trade name Modalina®. To be sold, this medicine would require the presentation of a specific repeatable medical prescription (RR); however, being classified as a Class A drug, its cost can be reimbursed by the National Health Service (NHS).
in individuals suffering from:- Neurosis;
- Psychosomatic disorders (psychic alterations that lead to physical discomfort which, however, occurs without any bodily disease to trigger it).
During treatment with trifluoperazine, however, your doctor should be contacted immediately if you experience a combination of the following symptoms:
- Fever;
- Severe muscle stiffness;
- Akinesia;
- Excessive sweating
- Acceleration of the heartbeat;
- Altered blood pressure;
- Loss of consciousness.
The doctor should be alerted immediately as the aforementioned symptoms may indicate the onset of neuroleptic malignant syndrome which requires immediate medical attention and suspension of the active ingredient.
Finally, we remind you that in the case of prolonged therapy with high doses of trifluoperazine, the doctor will carry out regular checks on the patient to evaluate his state of health.
