Editorial board Sucralfate - Chemical Structure
Also part of the group of anti-ulcer drugs, sucralfate can be defined as a protective agent of the mucous membranes, as it is capable of exerting both a sort of direct protective activity and of increasing the defenses of the gastric mucosa against the acidity of the environment of the stomach.
Naturally, sucralfate must be taken orally to exert its therapeutic action. In fact, the medicines that contain it can be formulated in the form of tablets, chewable tablets, oral suspension, powder or granules for oral suspension, oral gel.
These medicines, in order to be dispensed, require a repeatable medical prescription (RR), but since they are classified as class A drugs, they can be reimbursed by the National Health System (SSN).
On the market, it is also possible to find medicines containing sucralfate in combination with ketoprofen (Ketodol® - OTC drug). In this article, however, we will talk about the characteristics of sucralfate alone and not of the sucralfate associated with other active ingredients.
