Shutterstock Sodium Picosulfate - Chemical Structure
Usable both in adults and - at the appropriate dosages - in children, sodium picosulfate is administered orally; in fact, it is found in medicines formulated in the form of powder for oral solution, oral drops, soft capsules, chewable tablets. In some of these, sodium picosulfate is associated with other active ingredients with a laxative action.
Medicines containing sodium picosulfate and other active ingredients can only be sold on a repeatable prescription (RR). Medicines based on sodium picosulfate only, on the other hand, are over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, therefore they can be freely purchased in pharmacies and parapharmacies. Both types of medicines are dispensed entirely at the expense of the citizen (class C drugs).
