Rivastigmine is available in a variety of medicines formulated as hard capsules, solutions for oral use, orodispersible tablets, or as transdermal patches.
These medicines, in order to be purchased, require the presentation of a specific limitative repeatable medical prescription (or RRL - drugs that can be sold to the public only on prescription from hospitals or specialists). Most of these drugs are classified in group A; therefore, their cost can be reimbursed by the National Health System (SSN), in whole or in part, depending on the case (it may be necessary to pay a ticket). Some rivastigmine-based medicines, however, not being classified in group A are paid by the citizen.
