Editorial board Fondaparinux sodium - Chemical Structure
From the chemical point of view, fondaparinux is a synthetic sulphate pentasaccharide whose chemical structure is based on the active portion of the unfractionated heparin.
Similarly to other heparin drugs, fondaparinux must be administered parenterally and, in particular, by subcutaneous injection in order to work. In some cases, however, the active ingredient can also be administered intravenously by specialized medical personnel.
In Italy, fondaparinux is available in a single medicinal product called Arixrtra®. The medicine is in the form of a ready-to-use injectable solution contained in pre-filled syringes. In order to be dispensed, this medicine requires a medical prescription. repeatable; however, since it is classified as a class A drug, its cost (certainly high) can be reimbursed by the National Health System (NHS).
