What is Ariccia's porchetta?
Porchetta di Ariccia is a pork-based food (Sus scrofa domesticus) traditionally roasted, which is prepared throughout the territory of the municipality of Ariccia (province of Rome).
Despite having unequivocal origins, with a well-defined production area and historical period, later the recipe for porchetta di Ariccia spread like wildfire in most of central Italy.
To protect its typicality, on June 14, 2011 the European Union decided to award the Porchetta di Ariccia with the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) recognition. Today, its sale and distribution extend, in compliance with the specific regulations, throughout the region. Lazio.
