Dietary fiber deficiency is one of the major causes of contemporary malnutrition in developed countries.
In our country (and in all industrialized ones), contrary to what one might believe, malnutrition exists and constitutes a more than considerable health scourge; this kind of unbalanced diet is mainly responsible for: intestinal disorders, increased incidence of metabolic and neoplastic diseases, increased incidence of overweight and obesity.
Dietary fiber deficiency is therefore an etiological cause of malnutrition in wealthy countries which, unlike the third and fourth world, suffer from food abuse (and not deficiency) with a particular propensity to junk-food or otherwise refined / processed by the industry.
