If I had to invent a couple of foods, I would marry chocolate with chilli: the wrapped taste of cocoa balances the spiciness of chilli in a perfect combination! For the feast of lovers I thought of offering you a chocolate cake with a spicy note, which we will decorate with themed writings and drawings.

For the cake
- 140 g of dark chocolate
- 1 pinch of salt
- 80 ml of milk
- 50 g of frumina
- 90 g of white flour of type 00
- 40 g of butter
- 1 sachet (16 g) of baking powder
- 1 teaspoon of chili powder
- 25 g of bitter cocoa
- 90 g of sugar
- 180 g (3 medium) of eggs
For the filling and decoration
- 300 g of custard
- 200 ml of milk
- 300 g of sugar paste
- About 50 g of dark chocolate

Preparation
- Chop the dark chocolate and combine it in a bowl. Add the sugar, butter and chilli powder. Melt the mixture in the microwave until you get a cream.
- Shell the eggs and divide the yolks from the whites.
- Sift the white flour, bitter cocoa, wheat starch and baking powder. Combine the powders with the chocolate mixture, adding the three egg yolks, milk and salt.
- Mix all the ingredients until you get a homogeneous and rather thick batter.
- Preheat the oven to 160 ° C.
- Beat the egg whites until stiff.
One more trick
To favor the whipping of the egg whites, and to stabilize it over time, you can add a few drops of lemon juice to the mass.- Mix the egg whites until stiff with the chocolate cream, taking care to add them a few at a time and mix the mass from top to bottom to avoid letting the mixture go limp.
- Pour the dough into a heart-shaped mold (silicone, in our case, or aluminum), with a diameter of 24 cm. Bake the cake in the oven at 160 ° C for 40 minutes or until the inside is presents dry and compact.
- In the meantime, devote yourself to the preparation of the custard.
How is the custard made?
To prepare the custard, foam two egg yolks with 40 g of sugar and an aroma of your choice (eg vanilla, vov liqueur or other). Meanwhile, heat 200 ml of milk.
When the egg cream is soft and fluffy, add 50 ml of cold milk and 25 g of flour or cornstarch. Mix the mixture again with an electric mixer to remove any lumps. Pour the egg cream into the hot milk and bring to a boil, continuing to mix with a whisk.- Remove the cake from the oven and allow to cool completely.
- Cut the cake into two horizontal sections.
- Soak the first heart-shaped disc with milk (or with vanilla flavored milk) and fill with a part of cold custard. Soak the other disc on the inside as well, then place it on top of the custard.
- Cover the whole cake with a very thin layer of custard: it will serve as a glue, therefore to make the sugar paste adhere to the cake.
- Roll out the colored sugar paste to a thickness of a few millimeters. Coat the cake with the sugar paste, eliminating the excess parts.
- Decorate the cake with some sugar paste hearts.
- Chop the dark chocolate, melt it in the microwave and put it in a pastry bag with a smooth spout. Decorate the cake with chocolate writing and draw themed figures (e.g. ring).
- Leave the Valentine's Cake to rest in the fridge for a day before serving.
