Do you want to surprise your guests on Christmas day by serving an alternative dessert with a spectacular effect? I think you've come across the recipe that's right for you! To prepare this dessert I was inspired by one of the most sought-after centerpieces, that is the classic candle with various Christmas decorations. And this will be the theme of the day: by cleverly mixing crumbled biscuits, sugar and yogurt we will create 2 beautiful edible candles, which we will then cover with melted chocolate with a "wax" effect.

- 200 g of shortbread or dry biscuits
- 2 small pieces of almonds
- 2 tablespoons (if needed) of milk
- 50 g of sugar
- 30 g of bitter cocoa
- 170 g of Greek yogurt
To decorate
- 100 g of dark chocolate
- q.s. of powdered sugar
- About 100 g of red fruits
For coverage
- 100 g of white chocolate
- 1 teaspoon tip of red food coloring
Materials Needed
- Plastic bag
- Rolling pin or meat tenderizer
- Bowl
- Transparent film or aluminum
- Pot to cook in a double boiler or microwave to melt the chocolate
- Teaspoon
- Preferably marble top
- Baking paper
- Zigzag dough cutter wheel
- Long blade knife
- Sieve
Preparation
- First, crumble the shortbread biscuits with the help of a rolling pin.
The right idea
To crumble the biscuits, we do not recommend using a blender because it would make the biscuits in powder too thin. Rather, it is advisable to pour the cookies into a plastic bag and coarsely chop them with a rolling pin.- Pour the biscuit crumbs into a large bowl and mix everything with the sifted bitter cocoa. Combine the Greek yogurt, sugar and, if necessary, a couple of tablespoons of milk to make the dough easily moldable.
Did you know that
We thus obtained a dough very similar to the classic chocolate salami, but much lighter because we replaced the butter with Greek yogurt.- Divide the dough into two equal parts and obtain two sausages about 15 cm long, forming a sort of candle. Wrap each cylinder obtained in cling film and let it cool completely in the fridge (about 1 hour).
- Meanwhile, melt the dark chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave. Pour it onto a sheet of baking paper (preferably placed on a marble surface) and level the surface with a long blade to form a very thin layer of chocolate. Obtain diamonds with the special zig-zag pastry cutter wheel, then leave the chocolate to cool well in the fridge (if possible).
- Remove the two cylinders of dough from the fridge and proceed with the covering of (fake) wax. In a saucepan for the bain-marie (or in the microwave) gently melt the white chocolate, stirring occasionally to facilitate melting.
- Arrange the chocolate sausages vertically, possibly trying to improve their aesthetics: the dough should take the shape of a candle as much as possible. Place a piece of vertically cut almond on the end of the candle: the almond acts as a wick.
- Drain about half of the white chocolate over a candle: for this operation, you can use a brush or a teaspoon to obtain the classic "irregular wax" effect. Leave the white chocolate covered candle to cool in the fridge.
- Dye the remaining melted white chocolate red. Proceed as described in point 7 with the other candle.
- Meanwhile, the thin sheet of dark chocolate will have hardened. Remove the pieces of chocolate (cut with the wheel) and arrange them neatly on a serving dish.
- Place the two fake candles in the center of the chocolate strips. Before serving, sprinkle with icing sugar and decorate with red fruits.
